The Angel, Highgate

If you see half a dozen scruffy guys in this pub on Thursday night wearing football kit and looking exhausted, sorry. This is our post-game drinking den and we're here from 9pm-10pm religiously. Not cheap but the Guinness cannot be faulted and the bar staff are friendly. Decent food - we always get a couple of plates of tapas (what posh football folk we are).

This place gets very busy. The crowd is mostly well-heeled North London punters nursing a bottle of Chablis. We spot the occasional celebrity, which is a fun game but rather too easy around here. We've tried other Highgate boozers but always return here.

The Holly Bush, Hampstead

One of the best pubs in London in my humble opinion. Cool location - it feels like a country village pub. Try to grab an outside seat during the summer months and watch folk stroll by. Good selection of beers and wonderful old style decor. My friend had his 50th birthday in the upstairs room and we were well looked after.

The Flask, Hampstead

This is a wonderful little pub in a great location near Hampstead tube station and the Heath. I take many of my foreign guests here to show them a real English pub. You get some great old characters in the left hand saloon bar. The Flask used to be a socialist hang-out and you imagine Michael Foot in here playing dominoes and nursing an ale. Great decor. Not cheap admittedly but what does one expect around here?

The Railway, West Hampstead

This is a decent pub to grab a pint and watch the football on the big screens. Prices are reasonable and service is generally quick. It's a large place so you can usually get a seat or a table. Food basic but cheap - they seem to have offers at certain times.

Interesting fact - upstairs used to be a music venue and Joy Division once played there.

The White Horse, Shepherds Bush

Decent old-fashioned working men's boozer near Shepherd's Bush Market. Cracking pint of Guinness but sadly no real ales. Screens showing the football, pool table at the back and lots of Newcastle United paraphernalia. We watched Chelsea vs Sunderland and enjoyed a few pints in a convivial atmosphere. Friendly bar staff too.

La Brocca upstairs bar, West Hampstead

Moved to West Hampstead last week and have been here 3 times to catch the football. Good atmosphere, nice decor, friendly, bit of a laugh. Amused to see the photos of the owner all over the wall with (one assumes) famous people, and the real-life fella propping up the bar. Lot of Irish accents and a decent pint of Guinness. No problem with that!
