Red Herring, Bank

Like rpadam, I found this pub to be greatly improved with no loud music, plenty of seating. Most importantly, the range of ales was outstanding for a city pub and all were well kept. We did not eat today but the food looked very good.

The Butcher's Hook and Cleaver, Smithfield

A good selection of beers in reasonable condition served by fast and polite staff. The food was all fine but the chips that came with the burger were possibly the best that I have ever had. And I have had a lot.

The Golden Fleece, Bank

In an update to my previous posting, this pub seems to have gone downhill over the last few weeks. When we arrived, we waited far too long to be served, considering that the pub was almost empty. The beer was up to its usual standard, but when the food arrived, one meal (mine) was missing. It appeared a good ten minutes after everyone else had finished, at which point the waiter was given an alternative serving suggestion. Admittedly, the price of the meal was refunded without quibble and the staff were very attentive from that point on. There have been a few instances lately where the food has not been up to scratch, late or wrong. In short, the beer is still good but eat somewhere else.

The Royal Oak, Rusper

Having been a few times before, I expected the beer to be excellent and I was not disappointed. We had intended to try as many as possible but the Arundel Mild proved too good to move on from. Having sat outside, enjoying the countryside for most of the evening, the real fire that we found when we went inside was perfect. The beer fuelled decision to walk back to Horsham rather than get a cab may have been a bit foolhardy without a torch. A fantastic pub, well worth a special trip.

The Lord Raglan, St Pauls

I have used this pub a lot in the past but this was my first visit since the refit. Whilst it has to be said that some of the charm has gone, the pub now makes more sense and is more usable and spacious. The beer was perfectly acceptable, far better than a lot of city pubs. The staff were friendly and when not being distracted by the landlady, very quick to serve. All in all, not bad but not worth a special visit.

The Golden Fleece, Bank

I have been in this pub often over the last couple of years and found it to be preferable to most of the others in the area. Good beers and half decent food. Dont let the crowded bar put you off, the staff seem to get to you surprisingly quickly. All my visits have been at lunchtime.

The Queens Head, West Chiltington

I only go in this pub every couple of years or so but have always found it to be a pleasant village pub. This visit was for a friends birthday party which was catered for brilliantly. The current team seem to be doing a great job. Not a great choice of beers but both very drinkable.

The Black Horse, Findon

We recently met some friends here for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised by bright and modern feel of the place. The food and service were both as good as expected, given that the place has a definite restaurant bias. What was a surprise was that the Harveys was really well kept. I would definitely go again.
