Tapping the Admiral, Camden Town

Fantastic pub, great beer, cat-what more could you want. Wait a minute- it seems to have become the latest pub to fall foul of the adhorrent practice of reserving tables, it's a pub for Gawd sakes, I'm getting heartily fed up with going into half empty pubs with every table having a sign on "reserved for Tarquin and Jocasta 7PM" Oh you can sit there until they come, then you have to slink away like a 2nd class citizen cos the bright young things have arrived. This nonsense is going to kill off so many pubs, you go to a pub and take pot luck, that's the point, there may be a coach load of Canadian hairdressers, a chapter of Hells Angels or three regulars, that's the point of going to the pub. Rant over.

The Snooty Fox, Canonbury

Like this pub a lot but they really should sort out their staffing levels, several times I've waited over 15 minutes to be served! Last sunday lunchtime there was just one barmaid with a pub full of families eating and trying to pay for their pub lunch, constant queue and a 20 minute wait get 2 pints of Landlord

Clockwork, Islington

Gawd preserve us from pubs with "bouncers" on the door. This place has serious delusions of grandeur. I went there last night to see a couple of bands playing and was told I couldn't come in because I was "wearing jogging bottoms"! I'm a 47 year old white guy who has never uttered a cross word in my life let alone be violent, have a criminal record or whatever " people in jogging bottoms" are supposed to be prone to, I wonder how fast our guardian of the customers would disappear if a bunch of Yardies pull up armed with uzis!? I don't think I missed much, I had already gathered that the bar has no beer, but can we please knock this bullshit on the head.

The Beaconsfield, Harringay

A massively improved boozer, great traditional North London pub. Fairly recently started selling decent beer after a long keg/lager only period, now sells a lovely pint of London Pride and Green King IPA. Bar staff all great, a real family atmosphere seems to pervade. Live music, pub quizzes, even bingo! (I won two Prizes in one night!). Big screen for footy, a couple of pool tables, good blend of clientele-what more could you ask for.
