too small, too cliquey, too smokey, even when empty(and i'm a smoker). As for the beer? don't bother, have a bottled beer instead. Or just go to another pub, probaby easier all round.

I like this place, the beers are great and well kept. It's definately a drinkers pub but none the worse for that.

Good pubs, good food, the beers are well kept and it's a great building. Well worth a visit.
I agree with the previous comment, ditch the car park at the back and get a proper riverside beer garden in. Lets use the river in Reading not ignore it.

Good local pub, recent refurb didn't ruin it, nice place for a few drinks.

now renamed as the "gateway" or some such, seems to have lost it's way in the process and the crowd has changed. Shame really it used to be a good pub.

The Three Men In A Boat, Reading
Dismal pub, should be great as it has the best site for a pub south of the thames in Reading but simply doesn't pull it off. nasty crowd as well. I wasn't impressed.

Proper pub, far too busy of course but there's a reason for that, the beer is good.

Great building but the beer is awful, you can tell they don't clean the pipes that often, even the guiness had an odd aftertaste.

The RISC Global Cafe and Bar, Reading
Thsi place is OK, wide selection of bottled beers, cocktails and a cafe atmosphere during the day. Does food as well.

The best drinking hole in central Reading. Good beers, good crowd, odd bar snacks. Jukebox is slightly odd and the plasma screens seem out of place but the rest of the place is top quality.

Great pies, to at in and take away, with a mini-pib bit in the middle which serves good, if expensive, beers. Does the best chips in Reading, bar none. No chips in the evening alas but lunchtime is good for game.

Ok pub, location will improve when they finally build something on the old car park site. Nice old building, Fullers ales well served. A future gem but a bit ropey at the moment.

Why is this place still open? I've only drank here twice, once by accident and once because i couldn't believe it was as bad as i had remembered it. Awful place. Grim dark almost fetid atmosphere, poor beer, surly service and from what I could see of the regulars, I could tell that I wasn't in the presence of the berkshire glitteratti set. Avoid.

Old fashioned backstreet boozer, takes some finding but repays the effort. Greene King bitters, well kept and reasonable prices.

Boring plastic McPub, very pricey drinks and a bit tatty. Not worth the effort to climb up the hill frankly. Supposedly does good food, the reality at another table looked rather different.

A drinking pub, lots of space, poor food, but the beer is very good, cheap and served with professionalism and speed. Well worth it for a drink but just don't eat here.
