The Castle, Harrow On The Hill

Payed another visit to the Castle 2 weeks ago as our Ramblers Association meeting was cancelled. I thought I had walked on set at a Most Haunted filming. Where oh where has everyone gone. Even the barstaff have changed, thankfully the beer hasnt it remains woeful. I asked to speak to John the Guvnor but apparently he has been replaced by a hologram.
Is this pub being run down for redevelopment I ask.

Have to say I havent been to the Castle for nigh on 2 years. I used to frequent this lovely pub with my Ramblers Association comrades. Dropped in Sunday, No sign of the regulars, where have they gone . No Celeste Mumford and his wee son Wilf. I for one wont be back in a hurry. For information us Ramblers now meet at La Colitis on the Hill every third Wednesday in the month.

I took the family for a slap up meal at the Castle on Sunday lunchtime. We had the chefs Special, a jar of peanuts and a pint of Frontier. It was perfect, and we got change from a tenner. We will back as soon as Wonga.com approve my loan.

Pub prices

Salad
The belief that a pub lunch is the cheaper option for eating out may soon be a thing of the past, according to research reported in the Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph.

The cost has jumped on average by 11% in the last year while restaurants dropped their menu prices, catering consultants Horizon say.

Some of this can be attributed to the trend for landlords to be serving increasingly pricey fare in gastropubs.

The average main course dish in a pub is now said to cost £9.39 compared to a restaurant price of £10.95.

I have to agree with Perry, the Castle has turned into an overpriced gastro pub with little thought for the beer drinkers. Not to mention the ridiculous artifacts hanging on the walls and ceiling. Its like a set from Harry Potter meets Steptoe and Son. I for one cant wait for the Half Moon to reopen. On a more positive note I have to say Don the new Landlord is a breath of fresh air.

I was in the Castle in the week meeting with my rambling fraternity. What a pleasure to chat with Grayson the barman about what a great pub the Castle is. I dont normally eat in pubs but I do recommend a Lambshank and a cup of coffee at this hostelry.

Keep up up the good work Fullers

Bratwurst. The last time I had an exotic sausage was in the Olde Crippling Stick in Gotwood Herts. with hash browns and american jack cheese, mmmmm. Perfect way to spend lunch when rambling in the shires.
Not been to the Castle this winter yet , but may get up there soon as I am gagging for a pint of Youngs and a stiff one , brrrrrrrrrrr. .

Well Stanley . You know the rules , eating your own fare in pubs is not allowed. Dont think you can get away with sneaking them in , Mason the barman is watching on cctv.

We ramblers know a a thing or two I can tell you. Last night my buddie went to the Castle for a drink and heavens above the chef is wandering around the bar in a ' Tommy Hooper ' hat. Is he responsible for the Harrow mess on the menu. Whatever next. hand picked Fruits of the Hill with Harrow mess on it.Oh why do we continue to meet here when the orange juice is at best warm and the coffee is tasteless. Before you ask I have had the original Eton mess and its gorgeous

I notice mince has got back on the menu again recently. Makes me gag.remove it.
I dont have a problem with the barmaid from East Kilbride, its her husband Jason that I cant abide. As for BJ the barman , he's a lovely man.
I only drink in the Castle on Thursdays when I have a drink with my Ramblers Association buddies.I would highly recommend the Castle to anyone who doesnt drink or eat out.
