Rose, Bedford

yet another shitty pub of which bedford seems to have a surplus. Obviously desighned for the friday/saturday night crowd as row upon row of watered down lagers await you in this pub that somehow calls itself a"freehouse went for the westons still cider and it tasted more lukewarm watered down piss. Thank god I didnt try the food menu which looked horrendously expensive if its as the beer. The fact that this pub was mostly empty on a sunday lunchtime speaks for itself.

The Fish And Eels, Hoddesdon

the fIsh & eels is in a good location with lots of parking, make sure you take your sunglasses off before entering as for some reason it is very very dark inside, however most people sit outside on the river terrace which is not as clean as it should be. The choice of beer is same as most other places but the beer tastes watery. The licensee is extremely abrupt and unpleasant. I would say this pub is ok if you really need a drink otherwise look elsewhere.

The King George V, Brompton

A dirty pub with a large "clique" of yokels. Dont expect a hello either. the beers are usually luke warm and not well kept. the interior is filthy with dead flies and an accumulation of dirt in the drinking area. The tables used for the dining area are absolutely disgusting. This pub in the right hands could be a gem but unfortunately the present owner adds nothing to the value of this pub.

The Sir John Franklin, Greenhithe

I was enticed into this pub by the renovated exterior however that's where it ended. Anyone in Greenhithe should walk another 100 yds and go in the Pier further up the high street. The bar maid was able to serve me once she had finished her trivial conversation with one of the "yokels" but obviously a greeting was a step too far. The beer was disgusting and lukewarm on a scorching hot day and she couldnt manage to find the correct glasses for the beer. Although the terrace is probbaly better than the nearby Pier as it is right on the river it seemd to attract mainly "chavs" With mediocre pubs like this is it any wonder they are closing at a rate of knots?

The Pier Hotel, Greenhithe

Went to this pub and found ok, Service was efficient, choice of beers a bit limited and bit pricey. Terrace very clean and decoarated with a lot of hanging baskets. I would say the landl;ord has put alot of effort into the place. shame about the car park blocking the river view partially. Can't say I saw any "Pikies" and is a hell of a lot cleaner than the vast majority of pubs I have been to.maybe all the "medway pikies" have returned to medway lol.

Harty Ferry Inn, Sheerness

The Ferry inn could be an absolute goldmine to the right owners , however the present owners are not at all welcoming and the range of beers is limited. The day I went there they had a gorgeous local cider on which was miles better than the overrated "scrumpy" The food is overpriced and portions on the meagre side. All said and done this best does offer some of the best views anywhere and birdwatching can be done easily from the inside or out on the terrace which is kept clean. Shame the owners are bit miserable but that seems to b epar for the course these days.

The Bull, Bedford

This is possibly one of the best pubs in Bedford, being friendly and welcoming. The beer is not the best I have ever tasted but by no means the worst and the service by Bedford standards is exemplary. The only downside to this pub seems to be the lack of fresh air circulating every time I go in which leads to it being very stuffy if busy. Although I didn't try the food the menu was clear and reasonably priced and the food that people were having looked appetising.

The Humphrey Bean, Tonbridge

Went there on the day the country was declared bankrupt and it pretty much reflected the state of the beer garden with broken with brokentables and filth everywhere. The bar staff excluding the pretty blonde was absolutely clueless. Beer is typically Wetherpsoons verging on being off. I dont understand why the garden is not separated into smoking and non a this would greatly improve the experience.

The Lion Hotel, Farningham

Vintage inns pub and this probably sums up the decor and ambience. The plu spoint wa sthe friendly Robin flitting between tables and chairs outside. Thi spub could be very pleasant howver the outside is dirty and the garden not maintained as well it could be. The beer comproised the usual suspects eg London pride. My guest informed me the toilets were somewhat "smelly".

Ship and Lobster, Gravesend

I went to this pub on a scorching hot day and yet there were no parasols on the so called terrace which is is in reality little more than a sea wall with a couple of grotty benches on. You can see the river if you stand however the benches are so low down you would have to be giant to see over the sea wall. The inside of the pub is clean, but dont expect a great range of beers as most were off on my visit. This pub is tucked away from the town centre reached by a scary walk through a lot of industrial units along filthy litter strewn paths. The staff are friendly enough but overall disappointing.Notreally worth making the extra effort for.

The Devonshire Arms, Bedford

could be a nice pub but the beer is pretty undrinkable and the landlady is a miserable old cow even demanding the bar newspaper back if you try to read. Yet another lacklustre pub in Bedford

The Crown and Sceptre, Fitzrovia

Went in this pub the day before xmas eve and the noise coming from the jukebox was unbearable. It wa slike some form of torture! the beer tasted watered down, the decor was hallucinating with so many flashing lights,.

Sort of pub you go in once and dont bother returning to.

26 Dec 2009 20:26

The Wellington Arms, Bedford

This pub states "no stella, carling. fosters" "no crap" however the beer was decidedly crap being distinctly cloudy and tasting more of dishwater than beer, The service was equally "crap" being inefficient and seemingly not knowing the difference between beer and muck left in the pipes. the vast array of pumps may look good but dont be deceived.

27 Sep 2009 21:59

Three Tuns, Fen Drayton

service not especially pleasant but nice location and beer drinkable if a tad expensive.

12 Sep 2009 19:45

The Bankers Draft, Bedford

beers usually on their way out and service painfully slow.

12 Sep 2009 19:44

The Mitre, Cambridge

slow and unfriendly service, no hand dryer in the smelly toliets, wondered where all the flies wer coming from.found out when went to toilet as rubbish bins overflowing out the back and flies swarming. range of ales unimpressive and flat and lukewarm.

The Mill, Cambridge

unfriendly full of flies and uninviting.
