Pretty much the same as previous comments back in 2009. Now has Deuchars, Black Sheep Bitter & Theakston Old Peculiar. Deuchars was fine but such a pity that local micros are not on sale in a free house. We had sandwiches which were good and came with home made chips

This is a cosy country freehouse with good food. The 2 permanent beers are Black Sheep Bitter and Theakston Bitter. Both well kept. A guest beer usually from a local brweery such as Rudgate or Walls is put on on Thursday night for the weekly pub quiz

Steamer took us here while we had a 4 hour wait for the Eurostar on the way to Bruges. An interesting selection of beers and those tried were good including a stout from Bristol.

As others say a great bar and the house tripple is excellent. Talked with a number of visitors who knew their beers both Belgian and English

Did not like this place. Very busy when we called in at around 4.30 with many tables reserved for evening eating. Although a good selection of beers try Poatersgat at 8a Vlamingstraat which opens at 17.00 for an atmospheric bar.

Worth the walk from the town centre. Had a special selectrion of Trapist bottles. has Half Moon Bruges Zot on tap. We were welcomed and served an excellent lunch. Fire roaring in the old stove in the middle of the room

As good as the previous reports say. Definately worth a visit when in Bruges

Although this pub does concentrate on food (which is excellent with a changing specials board) it is worth visiting for the beers. There are 3 handpumps which have a range of beers mainly from Yorkshire breweries. Today there was Walls Brewers Gold, York Decade and a 5% IPA from Roosters. The lanlord is knowledgable about his beer and had a number from Walls Hop Studio and Salamander to put on over Easter. Walkers are welcome and recently there has been a small extension built on the back which means there is always room for drinkers.

The bridge has recently reopened with new tenants and had been damaged in winter floods. The are 3 handpumps. One with Theakston Bitter, one with a beer from Mithrill and a guest (which was Brains Bread of Heaven). There is a pleasant wood panelled bar with an open log fire and a separate dining room. The pub is open all day for coffee and food. Bar opens at noon. Walkers are welcome (we had taken off our muddy boots after a walk along the teesdale way). Seems to have changed from the previous comment.

The White Hart is now a genuine free house being bought from Enterprise in the winter of 2011. The owners have undertaken a full refurbishment to the bar, kitchen and bedrooms. There are 2 bar rooms with the larger having a white multli fuel stove. The landlord is keen on his real ale. When we visited there was Theakston bitter, Wensleydale Semmer water and Salamanda Cracker. There was a display of previous beer pump clips and all the local micros were represented. All the beers tasted were in good condition. There is a separate dining room and a pub food menu for the bar. We had some interesting sandwiches. Much of the meat is sourced locally. The landlord said that there are 5 letting bedrooms. It is good to see a choice of real ale in Hawes for a change.

The Tithe Bar was refurbished last summer. Unfortunately needs more soft furnishings as noise is overpowering when it is busy and it can be cold in the winter. However the range of ever changing beers is excellent and have always been on good form on recent visits. By far the best place for real ales in Northallerton. A great pity that all the beer pictures, beer mats etc have been removed during the redecorations

The Beeswing Inn, Northallerton
The Beeswing has just reopened after the previous tenants left. Was redecorated over a year ago and is much improved. Menu looked OK and will be starting a lunch menu soon. Beers are through punch so those on offer were uninspiring. Hope that new tenants can keep it going

Based on a recent visit I did not rate the beers as highly as others have at the Unicorn. The selection was OK but no dark beers. Fixtures and fittings are beginning to look tired already and the glass in a picture was broken. Front bar area was dominated by noisy groups with young children
29 Jan 2013 10:07
Have not tried the food so cant comment on that. Unfortunately on a recent visit real ales were poor including Black Sheep and Robinsons Dizzy Blonde. Hope that was a one off as pub is popular with locals

Pub is now closed and looks like it has been for a few months. Weeds growing around the walls and car park. Nothing to indicate wether it is temporary and no for sale sign outside

North Riding Hotel, Scarborough
Best thing about the North Riding is its own good value beers and range of other beers. All good value for money. Brewer trained by Rob at Yorkshire Dales which shows. Very quiet on a Friday lunchtime. Toilets certainy need a refurb. If you need to eat on a weekday lunchtime there is a good value cafe across the road.
25 Aug 2012 10:23
A very typical weatherspoons. Busy and noisy on a Friday afternoon. As ever too many "available soon" beers (why in such a busy establishment). Titanic White Star was good. Wold Top Anglers Revenge not at its best. Best thing is its well placed for the station for a quick one befre getting the train

Now open again!!! Much changed from when I had my first legal pint there in the early 70s. Has a selection of real ales from near and far (a distant outlet for Black Sheep). Was running a beer festival with entertainment over Easter. Although we did not eat others said the food was good. Hope that it can survive a bit longer than previous attempts.
19 Apr 2012 10:50
In many ways more a restaurant than a pub but a splendid interior. There is a good selection of real ales including Dark Star Hophead, Harveys Bitter and a beer from Langhams. Busy on a Saturday night and our party all thought the main courses were good although the vegetarian option was said to be a small portion.

This pub has now been demolished and a care home will be built on the site
20 Mar 2012 10:25
Visit tis pub for food rather than for real ale. Only Black Sheep bitter available. Sunday lunches very popular.
11 Mar 2012 10:43
Splendid pub which always has a great choice of beers. Yesterday 5 golden ales from near and further away plus Black Sheep Bitter (for those who want it) and a porter. Front bar area has a fire in the winter and there is a large garden for the summer.

The George and Dragon, Leyburn
Still no changes here. 5 real ales available and all well kept. An excellent pint of Yorkshire Dales, Citron Seat on Saturday afternoon. Lunchtime and evening menus looked interesting.

The Foresters Arms, Carlton in Coverdale
This pub has now been bought through a community share issue and is owned by nearly 400 local people and others from further afield. It reopened on Christmas Eve after a refurbishment because the previous owners made a number of internal alterations and took out the kitchen. There is ongoing work to the restaurant, kitchen and the 3 letting bedrooms which the landlord anticipates will open in January/February. There are 4 real ales available with Black Sheep Bitter and John Smith Cask as well as 2 guest beers which will be sourced from local breweries including Wensleydale. Lovely old fire place in the bar and adjoining room also has an open fire.
29 Dec 2011 12:21
Choice of 3 beers from York Brewery plus 3 guests all in good form. Food OK but a fairly limited choice. However the gents toilets probably rate as the smelliest in York.
21 Dec 2011 10:47
The brewery is back to its old self with the return of Ian Jackson following the terrible attack on him in Darlington. On Sunday there were 7 Captain Cook beers available inluding the new Resolution bitter and the fantastic Black Porter. There were also two guest beers. Great to visit in the winter with the fire roaring.

This pub is now closed and being converted to a Costa Coffee outlet
29 Nov 2011 15:28
New landlord has made a great difference to this pub. Now 4 real ales available. The standard range of Smith Cask, Black Sheep Bitter and Theakston Best but also one guest which was Rudgate Ruby Mild on last visit. Pity more local micros not on offer. Now open all day and letting rooms available. Travel to Redmire on the Wensleydale Railway, walk down to the pub, have lunch and catch the next train back.

Darlington Snooker Club, Darlington
As ever another excellent beer festival held in early November with beers from local breweries including Mithril, Yorkshire Dales and Just a Minute as well as new ones to me from further afield such as Lymestone. All beers sampled were in excellent condition and served from the main bar and the extended bar which is in the lounge area. No draught mint sauce this time but Rita's homemade mushy peas were good. Pop in and suggest your favourite beer to Pete who will try to get some in the future.

On 2 visits to this pub and brewery over the past year things ar not as they were. Beer range available which are brewed on site much reduced but in good condition. Both times the locals had to rescue the fire to warm the place up a bit. Will continue to call in hen in the area and hope things pick up.
30 Oct 2011 10:28
4 beers available including 2 from the local Uley Brewery which were in good condition. Called in near food closing time at lunchtime but the friendly staff prepared excellent ham bagettes. Interior is a bit plain but outside views are excellent.
30 Oct 2011 10:20
A genuine house and is the Brewery Tap for Mithril and always one of their beers is available as well as 3 other beers. A successful beer festival was held in August and further events are planned.

The Bear of Rodborough Hotel, Rodborough Common
Since the previous review "renovations" have been undertake here and are not in keeping with this historic building. Log fires seem to have gone and the residents lounge has a window knocked through to the bar. However, on the plus side there are now 4 real ales served, all local and well kept. The Restaurant food is very good and bar meals seem popular. There are very good value packages availalable through Cotswold Inns.
27 Oct 2011 17:53
Excellent choice of 9 beers including 3 from breweries which I had not come across before. All those sampled were in very good condition. Interesting brewery memrobilia on display. Well worth calling in if you are walking the Cotswold Way

After more than 20 years living in North Yorkshire it is fantastic to have a local which is a genuine free house selling 5 beers in excellent condition. The beers are from local micros including Mithril, Yorkshire Dales, Wensleydale and often 2 from the new Walls County Town Brewery in Northallerton. In the summer the pub is open all day but now the Coast to Coast passing trade has stopped opening hours are more restricted but open evenings and weekend lunchtimes (but closed Tuesday). Looking forward to sitting in front of a roaring log burner on a winters evening. As Steamer says best to check if you are intending to eat.
17 Oct 2011 18:09
This excellent pub stocks 4 regularly changing real ales mainly from local breweries such as Allendale, Wylam and Consett. Real cider is also stocked. The interior is worth seeing and has been used for a variety of TV locations. There are coal fires in each of the 3 rooms. The landlord is a professional photographer and a variety of his work is displayed around the walls. Best to book for meals. It is only a short walk from Frosterley station on the weardale railway. Look out for Frosterley marble. It is a pity that a keg lager font has been introduced.
17 Oct 2011 10:10
While agreeing with the other reviews that this is an interesting conversion of an old building, the beer choice has gradually deteriorated. On one recent visit 3 of the six handpumps were out of action due to "line cleaning" although pump clips remained in place. Yesterday there were 2 5% beers as well as the usual Abbot & Ruddles. Guest was Tetley bitter. The previous local beers such as those from York & Hambleton have disappeared. For a better local choice visit the Crown & Anchor in Sowerby.
4 Oct 2011 10:09
As ever the Cover Bridge is always worth a visit to discover which 3 guest beers will feature. Usually beers from Yorkshire and often from local micros including Mithrill, Yorkshire Dales, Wensleydale and Walls County Town and in the 3.8 to 4% range.
29 Sep 2011 20:25
This Spoons runs monthly festivals featuring local and regional breweries or types of beer (eg dark beers). The recent one was Walls County Town Brewery which is newly established in Northallerton. All 5 beers were in good condition and the Summer Gold was outstanding. Looking forward to the Salamander festival next weekend.

Ye Olde Three Tuns, Thirsk
Pub now reopened as Little 3 Real Ale & wine Bar. Had a poor choice of real ales when visited and hope that in future it will have a range of local beers rather than national products. Can only score it low unless range of beers and staff taking an interest in their beers improves. Food looked good value for money. Did not see a wine list on view. Building has had an interesting renovation.
